January 2007 JCA Solutions Newsletter
What's new in the New Year
Dear Brian,
Happy New Year!
I hope you all had a great holiday season.

There are a few new things right off the bat in the New Year for JCA Solutions.
We will be releasing a new version of the Simple SCORM Packager in March 2007 and we have 2 SCORM training sessions available in March for those that are interested.
On the SCORM front, I am getting the feeling that this is going to be a big year for SCORM and Sharable Content. Take a look at the ZDNet Education article below and you can see why.

Because of the increasing interest in SCORM, those that have not already done so, should be looking to get their courseware content, tools, and LMS' SCORM Certified in order to let the world know that they have adopted SCORM. If this sounds a little too complicated, don’t worry; this newsletter will tell you how.

Dont forget to check out the coupon at the bottom of the newsletter !!

SCORM in the News
  SCORM Mentioned on ZDNet
On December 22, 2006, ZDNet Education published an article entitled "Six Trends for 2007 and the 21st Century". Number 4 on the list was "The gathering SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model)".
In this article, the author refers to using SCORM in K- 12 and college education. In fact, according to Judy Brown, former director of the Wisconsin ADL Co-Lab, (http://judyb.wor dpress.com/) the largest implementer of SCORM 2004 today is the Korean K-12 system with over one million users and over 185,000 daily. I was very pleased to see the ZDNet article published as it indicates to me that SCORM is reaching outside the military and, as a result, is on a good path to becoming a recognized and accepted way of creating courseware.

How to become SCORM Certified
  What is SCORM Certification
In the seminars I put on each year, there is always one question that comes out after every session: "Brian, how do I let people know that my content / tools use SCORM? How do I get my content SCORM Certified?"

For those of you that have not yet had a chance to make it to one of the classes, here is the answer.

You must first choose what SCORM Certification you will need.
SCORM 1.2 Content Certification
SCORM 1.2 LMS Certification
SCORM 2004 2nd Edition Content Certification
SCORM 2004 2nd Edition LMS Certification
SCORM 2004 3rd Edition Content Certification
SCORM 2004 3rd Edition LMS Certification

If you are an LMS provider, you may choose to have just your LMS certified. If you are in the business of creating courseware, you can get your courseware certified. If you are like myself, and create tools that create SCORM content, you can have your tools output certified.

Next, you should do your own testing of your content or product before sending it to the testing center. The two facilities test for SCORM Certification against the current ADL Test-Suite from adlnet.org. So if you want to make sure that your content will pass certification, first test it in the latest ADL Test-Suite. Then pay the 1,500 to the lab so that they can run the test again and tell you that it passed.

Once you are able to pass the latest ADL Test-Suite, then contact one of the two labs listed below:
